Fall and Mom Is Riding

I have been enjoying some quality time with Odie this week. The kids are in school. My son began first grade so both children are full time this year. I'm resisting the urge to crow about it like Peter Pan...as I fly through the air...on my prancing Arabian pony.

"I gotta crow! Er-er-er-ER!!" Did you know that an awesome recording of the old B-way production with Cathy Rigby is available thru Netflix? Gotta check it. Anyway, I did actually do some prancing today because I practiced sitting trot.

For short periods, I began to feel how it should be...light, comfortable and so wonderfully connected to my horse's back. At first Odie was kind of inverted, but eventually he got really round, and I think he even enjoyed it.

It seemed like it gave him confidence to have me sitting and so focused on my position. I was feeling really balanced. And I tried my hardest NOT to bounce. My goal was to just sit, never mind steer. Just focused on NOT bouncing. I wanted to get some muscle memory started.

So then I did a little bit of canter transitions. Then I went back to posting trot and it was like a whole new world had opened up for me...or a whole new kind of hip joint-flexibility had opened up for me.

And I was still so balanced! After a while I felt the old habits creeping back...like doing too much with my body, and getting unbalanced as a result. It's amazing what can happen in that little bit of time one's rear end is out of the saddle in posting trot.

Gotta keep practicing sitting trot! Goodbye excess movement/effort. Hello prancing!
