Sweetheart Riders

We had a great time last weekend at the Sweetheart Riders 4-H Club Show. Keara is really getting better--she came home with a 5th place ribbon in her walk/trot rail class. Then she did barrels and got a 6th.

But what a long day--we were there 14 hours! Not something I'd like to repeat. The reason for this total lack of better judgment was the desire to try showmanship, which of course was the very first class.

Prospect is not a fan of showmanship. The horse would rather do just about anything than stand there and wait for the judge to give him the once-over. Not that he doesn't think he's a handsome boy, he's just got better things to do.

Keara muddled through, although it left her almost in tears. She will probably not want to do it again with this particular horse.

So, back to the long day, it started at 7 a.m. for a miserably fidgety horse in showmanship, and ended around 8 p.m. for the super fun gymkhana. So at least it got better as the day got longer, but I was sooo tired after.

But I got to do a gymkhana class too! Adults were allowed to do poles and flags. Keara's friend's Mom did the poles; I took flags. She did great; I had a no-time for breaking pattern.

Well, what did you expect from a dressage rider who grew up riding hunters? But hearing my daughter yell, "Go, Mom go!!" was worth it. Plus I haven't galloped in a while--that was a blast.

Need to try galloping on Odie I think. I wonder what would happen...

  1. What a long day! But it sounds like most of it was pretty fun.

  2. Yes it was very very long. Can't wait to do it again, but shorter.
